FAQ: Are Scooters Safe? August 20, 2009

Scooters seem to be the latest craze. They are affordable, fun, efficient forms of transportation and useful for many other things. Scooters are safer than Motorcycles for a few obvious reasons.
Number 1 reason is that most scooters are not as fast as motorcytclea and have a lower torque speed, so while you enjoy the “being free” ride, you don’t sacrifice the safety.
99% of scooters have a “twist and go” automatic (CVT) transmission, which means you don’t have a clutch to control and you don’t have to change gears, while 99% or motorcycles have a manual clutch and you have to shift gears manually (with your left foot). This also means that on 99% of motor scooters you apply the rear brake with your left hand, while on 99% of motorcycles you apply the rear brake with your right foot. So, while on a scooter, instead of worrying about changing the gear, or mixing the right or left foot when trying to stop or change gears, you can actually enjoy your ride, pay more attention to your surrounding and other motor vehicles.
